Bear Claw Lodge
Skeena Heliskiing operates from the exclusive Bear Claw Lodge, owned by Gene and Joy Allen and run by the Allen family.
Gene and Joy have been a part of the Skeena Heliskiing journey since our inception. Everyone who has stayed with us over the years will know that they are true hosts, making sure your stay is full of laughter, great stories and memories and has made everyone feel at home away from home.
The Bear Claw Lodge is in the heart of the Kispiox Valley and situated meters in front of the Kispiox River. Here is a summary and description on the rooms that are available.
#1 River Room: 2 Queen Beds
Our River Room is located on the first floor. This bedroom has 2 side by side queen beds and features art and artifacts of the Kispiox and surrounding rivers. Opening your sliding glass door to the sound of the Kispiox flowing by is a nice addition.
#2 Fireweed Room: 2 Queen Beds
One of our loft bedrooms is great for families or friends who like to share accommodations. With a ladder leading to the upstairs bed, this room offers a little more privacy for those sharing accommodations. Our Fireweed Room features a hand carved bed by local Gitxsan artist Art Wilson.
#3 Wild Horse Room: 2 Queen Beds
Another one of our loft rooms, the Wild Horse Room showcases art from local artist Leah Pipe. Encompassing the Cowboy and Pioneer theme, this room will have you motivated to go for a trail ride or maybe even a mountain pack trip. If you’re more into the relaxation and sitting in front of the fire with good company, Gene Allen always has some good cowboy stories!
#4 Chinook Room: 2 Queen Beds
With more than five generations in the Kispiox, salmon are a part of our culture. The Chinook Room features local First Nations art highlighting the Chinook Salmon. This “loft style” room is on the first floor. What better way to wake up with a coffee brought to your room, stepping out onto your balcony overlooking the Kispiox River and just soaking it all in! Some say they’ve even seen fish jump in the home pond from this room’s balcony.
#5 Gitxsan Room: 2 Queen Beds
One of our guests’ favourite rooms is the Gitxsan Room. Featuring hand carved bed frames by local First Nations artists: Bo Smith and Roy Henry Vickers. This bedroom is located on the ground floor. All of the furniture in this room was handcrafted by local artisan Cody Smith.
#6 Mountain Room: 1 King Bed
One of our King bedrooms, the Mountain room showcases the magnificent furniture and bed crafted by Cody Smith. The bed frame is carved into mountain peaks as well as the side tables and armoire. This room is located on the ground floor.
#7 Pioneer Room: 2 Queen Beds
Our Pioneer room is one of the most unique bedrooms. The side by side beds are one-of-a-kind design with a log house style for one and log canopy for the other. This room has a hand-made quilt and pillow cases to give it that “Pioneer” feel. Located on the ground floor, you are just steps away from our sauna.
#8 Silver Birch Room: 1 King Bed
Our Silver Birch room could be one of the most impressive rooms. The gigantic burls that make up the bed frame were exquisitely crafted by Cody Smith. This room is located on the ground floor and is the closest to the cedar sauna. From your bedroom window, Baldy Mountain peers down at you.
